About
Dr. Vellacott's research interests center on:
1. The utilization of language in the development and implementation of disability policy, with a particular interest in the power differentials amongst the actors as reflected in policy texts.
2. Employment policy for people with disabilities.
3. The role of the scholar-practitioner in government policy development environments.
My dissertation examined how various models of disability are represented in national disability policy document. By using Critical Discourse Analysis, I was able to identify the dominant discourses common to all the documents, identify their relationship(s) to common models of disability, and infer power relationships amongst the policy actors.
