About

I am a post-doctoral fellow in higher education at UBC based primarily in the Faculty of Dentistry. I am interested in how education policy is formed, its relationship to curriculum and its impact on student learning. My doctoral dissertation research focused on the drivers, characteristics and impacts of adult literacy policy.

Currently, I am working in two paid positions: one with Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann (Educational Specialist, Faculty of Dentistry) and one with Dr. Kjell Rubenson (Educational Studies).

1. HsingChi von Bergmann and I are conducting research in two main areas: 1. Teaching and learning in dental education; 2. Teacher education policy reform. In our work, we seek to understand current policies and practices in teacher and in dental education to inform institutional teaching and learning policies, to shape pedagogical approaches, and to develop curriculum materials. 

2. Kjell Rubenson and I are currently performing an investigation of agenda-setting in adult literacy policy in Canada looking at the role of media, think tanks, advocacy groups and government in driving adult literacy policy and in shaping the field of adult literacy.
