About
My major research interests are the history and theory of translation in ancient Rome and the reception of classics among the non-elite of 18th and 19th century Britain, Scotland, and Ireland.
I am currently working on a history of translation theory in ancient Rome, tentatively titled "Surpassing the Source: Roman Theories of Translation" along with several other projects on cheap classics in the 18th and the 19th centuries.
I am also a translator of Cicero (my translation of a selection of Cicero's speeches will be published by Penguin Classics this fall).
